PRESS RELEASE

3rd April 2016

ST. ANNE’S CHURCH, WESTERN ROAD,  LEWES WINS FUNDING FOR NEW CHAIRS

St. Anne’s Church, Lewes has been awarded £1000 by Sussex Community Foundation in its latest round of grant-giving. The grant will pay for stacking chairs and trolley.                   .

“We are delighted to have received this grant.” Said  Jackie Bishop (Churchwarden). It will be used to extend our outreach to those who already use our Church Hall in Highdown Road, particularly the elderly and less mobile by improving their comfort and making more space  within the existing  annexe for  a second meeting/activities room to facilitate the growing demand by many different groups within the community for hiring  at a low cost.

This summer will see as part of our long term plan for St. Mary’s Church Hall, Highdown Road, Lewes a renovation of the 1930’s building. The work which we are hoping to start in June  will see Roof and guttering repairs, new windows, and work to the doors and outside restoring it to its former glory. When more money becomes available we will be installing a new kitchen and decorating the interior.  We are looking at a two year plan during which we will  be continuing with our fund-raising efforts. I would like also to thank those in the community particularly of the Nevill who have supported all our money-making events over many years.

The Lewes Fund was established in 2012 to help facilitate charitable giving and to act as a fund raiser for  local community groups who, with their many volunteers do so much to address significant deprivation and help individuals and communities in need. The Fund draws on the knowledge and support of the local community, working together to help reduce disadvantage and build a stronger, sustainable community for the future.

The generosity of over 50 local contributors, including 20 Founder Donors, has already enabled us to give out over £25,000 in grants to over 20 local community groups, and invest £150,000 in our Endowment Fund which is managed by Sussex Community Foundation. The income from this fund will enable grants to be made in future years
